exhibition

this is how it began:
i was lay on the floor photographing the ashtrays on the floor of my house. i live with 9 people& all the people smoke. i am constantly surrounded by smoke. i have always been fascinated with the organic motion of the smoke in the air. after researching other photographers who had used similar concepts i decided to create my own project.

this is my final piece

i have put these images in this specific ordfer to show the exhalation of the smoke.

smoke

new project:i want to explore smoking

this began through my research on my dissertation, involving street phototgrpahy.
i like watching people smoke, see it rising& twisitng, wondering what tey are feeling: what is the need they feel. this brought me back to street photogtpahers id looked at a while back, such as: robert frank & mark cohen.

here are some others i came across. i feel i wanto explore black and white images further and incortporate into my own work.

Mitch Epstein

throughout the weeks doing my disertation i have found Mitch Epstein to be most influentual. i have mainly focused on his book 'Vietnam: a book of changes'His book was made over the course of three years 1992 to 1995, Mitch said that on each trip, ‘’i did not recognise Hanoi streets I’d been down before,’’ and that, ‘’ the face of Hanoi was shifting at a miraculous rate as it opened its arms to the modern world.’’ This book contains a small amount of images considering the fact that he has summarised his six different trips over the three years. It leads me to question how he has selected them and why he has selected what he has. But what also draws me to his work is how he descibes the, 'pull' to go back to vietnam & how he was’wedded to the intense, bittersweet world i encountered there.’’
