stop th clocks&turn the world around.
let your love lay me down,
and when the night is over, there'll be no sound
lock the box and leave it all behind
on the backseat of my mind
and when the night is over, where will i rise?
i don't know why i decided to call this blog 'stoptheclocks,' i found these words once and really liked them. realised that they were an oasis song but wasn't so keen on the song!
i had an induction for letterpress& the first words which came to mind were, again, 'stoptheclocks.' i learnt how to print using different type&all by hand. it was done on a metaal trey and roller. i printed the words on different surfaces& chnaged the font size. it was really interesting, just annoying i had to use red ink&not black.

factory girl

last night i watched factory girl. i hadn't heard much about it but really enjoyed it, its based on andy warhol, the pop artist& edie sedgwick. i like how it was based on warhol, gave a sort-of snippit of how he worked and how he was surrounded by eccentric people. i liked how the character was portrayed and it gave me an interest in him because his work seems standard due to the fact everyone loves it,but theres more to it than a can of soup.
&of course i thought soup= food& decided warhol could be one aspect i look into for my food project!

first project!help

on monday we were given our overall theme for our next project, 'food.'
as always at the begining of a project i was blank. not only do we have this project but also to write this blog,(which im sure im doing wrong) but also to make a journal of all the work we do!
i have already been doing the blog& have begun the journal but the project lost me!
i've not done work for such a long time, my head seems to have lost all sense of creativity. im trying to begin the project in all the standard ways and im hoping, as usual, that something will come to me btu as always it seems to take a while& worries me more when i see other people coping quite well....
to begin with i did a brainstorm of food, writing all the possibly things to link with food; not much came out of that but at least its a start.
hazel also asked us to record what we ate from that day to the morning of the next.
That day i'd gone into uni& was sent straight back out due to a power cut, which i was slightly happy about..., instead if going back to my halls i went to the pub with a few people from the course where i had a sailor jerrys& leomonade, i know it was early but im a student. went home, by this time i was hungry, and i had a cup of tea& three shortbread biscuits and a bowl of coco pops. i cleaned the flat&they fell asleep for about an hour. woke up, had a bowl of honey shreddies (i think im addicted to cereal.) later into the night i had a boil-in-a-bag rice with soysource and sweet&sour source.
later.....i had yet another cup of tea and threee biscuits... i know i dont have the best diet, i dont eat alot& when i do it does tend to be cereal. but since coming to uni ive tried not to waste eggs&have eaten scrambled egg....!
so basically
1sailor jerry&lemonade
2cup of tea
2bowls of cereal
1bowl of rice
6biscuits!
i think if i kept this diary going for a while id be very paranoid about what id eaten.
but where to go from here? i love alot of aspects of arts but i can never think where to go..
i did speak to hazel a few times and we discussed ideas. i have a few to start with so feelig slightly more positive than i did before.

ME

this painting was my Alevel final piece

this is the first time iv began a blog, so it's written very poorly& in the wrong orders& probabaly doesn't make sense to many people. but iv been told to do one!

Im Keri, im 19 and have just began an interactive arts course at MMU University. im going to tell you about myself......

Art to me means capturing moments in time, exploring feelings and provoking emotions. This is what inspires my creativity. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting and was most definate about studying Art at A level and after. I quickly realised that my knowledge and understanding of the subject was quite limited and during the course i have explored a wide range of media and techniques. i particularly like creating textures and working with mixed media.

Iam eager to investigate other disciplines such as photography, textiles and sculpture which i touched on in college. I also want to know about different eras and genres and develop my skills and discover what i am capable of. i love standing in front of a piainting. it can be emotional as though entering a different world. i always feel inspired after a gallery visit. I also enjoy reading about artists and designers i admire.

College was a success for me, although i lost interest at one point and my work level dropped, i managed to pull through and create a beautiful final piece on the sea, which i'd also done in my Alevel; A theme i loved, which i managed to expand on. Both peices proved to me i could really do art and paint if i put my mind to it. my btec piece was exhibitoned in the green room but unfortunately i never got the chance to see it & some one wanted to buy it....but they never got back to me!

But what interstest me the most is photography, i love it. due to short time in college i never really managed to focus on photography as much as i wanted to. it was something i mainly did in my free time. i had a decent camera until it got broken.... i use to take it everywhere with me, especially to clubs where i took photos of people around me and the lighting and just captured the atmosphere.

i once worked for the company 'tilllate.com' where you go to clubs and take pictiures of people- its a well known company and it helped me understand certain ways in which i should take pictures. id love to build upon my exhisting knowledge about photography and expand on what i touched on in college.

sweded

this was my final piece for my foundation

our second group project was to be done in a day and a half!

we were told to watch a 'swede movie' which is like a piss take of a movie trailer. we were given the sound of music.......

we watched the film&made notes on the most important parts and then wrote ideas.

one girl was incharge or the camera whilst the rest acted. All our visions and ideas were colloborated, working as a team went well here and we all participated.

the movie didnt take long there were lots of ways though, in which it needed editing or changing but with little time and no option of editing there was no choice!
on the thursday all the groups came together to watch each of the final ieces: some were amazing they looked so proffesional and were funny. in copmarison to everyone elses, our was rubbish!!
it was good fun though and we had laughs!

group work-the beginning

this is my first posting of my blog- i've never done one before, so im not so sure what im suppose to do!
29th September 09
Today was the day we started our first group projects for interactive arts. Our tutor, Hazel, put us in random groups; to give chance to mingle and make new friends. Initially we were all given an artist to focus on, ours was Jean Tinguely- luckly i wasn't the only one who had know idea who he was....
with each artist we had to find a link and create refreshments, costume, entertainment, decortaions and create an atmosphere.
we researched into tinguely, whom is a swiss born 1925-1991, he was part of the dada movement and was a painter& sculptur. the painitngs he made were mainly with mixed media and bright, whilst his sculpturs were completely different made from rubbbish, such as car parts and were very dull. He seemed to be a performing artist making some of his work kinetic an one piece, 'Homage to New York' self distructed itself within 27minutes.
after research we had ideas. for backgrounds we found old tires& bolts which we scanned and photocopied. These were stuck all over the walls. as a foreground we hung up papermache ballons which represented the bright colourful faces he has made, we filled each of them with swiss chocolate and tissue so when the were hit colour was suppose to 'explode' out!
we used erry sort-of music which i found by dusty kid called lynchesque.
each group had to do the same thing with their artists& at the end of it all we all had a party, saw each others work. was good fun& got people talking.
