Mark cohen

mark cohen

Mark Cohen (b.1943) is an American photographer best known for his innovative street photography.
The majority of the work for which Cohen is known is shot in the neighbourhoods of Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. Characteristically he shoots his subjects close in, often using a wide-angle lens and flash, frequently cropping the subjects' heads from the frame, concentrating on small details and moments.[6]
Cohen has described his method as 'intrusive'.[7] "They're not easy pictures. But I guess that's why they're mine."[8]

This photographer's fame comes mainly from her work during the Great Depression when she began documenting the suffering populace, breadlines, and strikes. Her first marriage over, she had re-married a labour economist and together they were employed by the California and Federal Resettlement Administration.
Their job: to record the Dust Bowl exodus when drought and hard times forced thousands of farm families to move west in search of work.

Nan Goldin is internationally recognized as one of today’s leading photographers. Nan Goldin was born in Washington, D.C. in 1953, and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. At the age of eighteen she began to photograph her family and friends—whom she considered her extended family—in New York, Boston, Provincetown, London, and Berlin. She has since lived in New York, Bangkok, Berlin, Tokyo and Paris, amassing an extensive body of work that represents an intimate and compelling photographic portrait of our time. First published in 1986, her Ballad of Sexual Dependency is a contemporary classic and one of the most influential series of photographs of the 1980's. It was originally presented as a slide show accompanied by a rock soundtrack and brought an intimate, even amateur, use of photography into the arena of contemporary art. It is a pictorial journey, documenting, with total candour, Goldin’s ‘extended family’ of Bohemian friends, drug addicts, transvestites, clubbers and battered lovers.

warehouse project. night.

these were a few of the photos i took for my project.

i really enjoyed trying to show the contrast of the space, how alive it was at night and the bleak atmosphere of the day time. i spent alot of time here & took lots of images, i recoreded how i felt within the day& night and tried to show this when i presented my work for ehibition. i used alternate photos of day& night as if people could veiw a 'glimpse' of the night time.
