'when celebrating an imperfect aesthetic you are teetering on the edge of chaos'

David Pearce is a self taught artist living near Padstow. his work reflect an intimacy with th local area where he has grown up, capturing the alure and drama of the distinct Cornish landscape. The painitings are simple yet sophisticated, with a nervous tension within the dynamic mark-making, juxtaposed against a sensitive and considered palette.
over the past ten years David's work has ben shown internationally at a number of prestigious galleries. Last year his work was exhibited at two of the countries most critically acclaimed exhibitions 'the sunday times watercolour exhibition' and 'the discerning eye.'

Cornwall

During the Easter holidays i took a trip to Cornwall with my family. Padstow is a place we visit most years, i know it very well and it reminds me so much of being a child. We went for a week but a break was definitely needed from the hustle and bustle of the city life. On the first evening we arrived we took the dog to Porthcothan Bay, the tide was out and the sun was setting. Straight away i had my camera out and took some fantastic shots of the sun just above the sea and the oranges, pinks and purples of the sky and clouds and the silhouettes of the cliffs. I know that some people may argue that scenery pictures are slightly dull, or could ask what makes mine so special? But i feel i have caught some beautiful moments and will pursue this further.

Throughout the holiday we took many different walks to different beaches at different times of day. Day time to early evening to night, to different weather conditions, some days were intensely cold and windy making the waves rise high yet the sun was shining through brightly. I collected things from the beaches such as rope, drift wood, shells and rocks.

In Padstow harbour there were a small number of different galleries; most of them contained work from locals. But they were all so inspiring; of course the majority of the paintings inside were of the sea and landscape but i can understand as the views are so beautiful. One which caught my attention was a gallery dedicated to the artist David Pearce. Most of his works were on brown canvases with a mixed media drawing and painting of the landscape. I want to look further into his work.
