my focus at this moment is pseudo identity, self branding against reality..
i asked persmission off my friends/ house mates to use them within this project-
i have selected an image that they use of themsleves as a facebook profile; this image is specific to them, it is their way of advertising themsleves.
i wanted to capture how they are in reality. In order to do this I photogrpahed them all in the same area, no special effect or lighting, creating a natural image. All my subjects wern't dressed to go out, they were in a natural stance, as if behind closed doors. In turn i asked them all to ignore the camera & talk to one of my other friends in the room- as if i wasn't there. they all reacted differently: some wern't too sure what to do, some looked away whilst others just saw it as if i didnt exist.
Along with the images, i asked all of them to answer the question, 'What is identity to you?'
I had a variety of responses: some felt the need to produce a dictnary style answer, whilst others were short & vague. I like how they all had to think.
i like the ideas of 'display pictures' hiding the reality behind what individuals are really like..my display picture,i think, portrays a completely different image to how i really am.
